Little Secrets: Over The Edge
Tom Ramirez stared at the person behind the wheel of the silver Audi TT. He was finally looking into the face of his stalker – and he couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Audra?” He blinked. It couldn’t be. Except it was. His lab partner, Audra, the geeky class brain, was the person behind the insane number of notes and weird messages he was receiving. The person who’d been behind the tinted windows of the car that had been lurking nearby for weeks. Tom never would have guessed. Not in a million years. But here she was.
“Looking for a ride?” Audra asked casually.
As a matter of fact…Tom glanced over his shoulder at the Silver Spring Country Club, the sprawling white building he’d just stormed out of. He was supposed to be in there now, schmoozing and smiling, playing the good son. He would rather be somewhere else. Anywhere else. Tom’s father, the district attorney, had just married the ultimate trophy bride in a disgusting display of pink and publicity, and the wedding reception was in full swing. If Tom left now, he was going to leave a gaping hole in daddy Dearest’s Congressional campaign photos. But Tom didn’t care. At all. He was sick to death of doing what his father wanted. And he was about to stop. “Where are you going?” Tom asked.
“Anywhere you want.” Audra looked at Tom, totally straight-faced.
That was all Tom needed to hear. Walking around to the passenger side of the car, he slid into the leather bucket seat. Before his door had even latched, the Audi was peeling out of the parking lot. Audra pointed the roadster out of town and floored it. Tom didn’t look back.
“Looks like I showed up just in time,” Audra said after a few minutes of silence.
You came running out of the club pretty fast.”
“What do you mean ‘just in time’?” Tom shot back. “Weren’t you out there waiting for me, the same you’ve been waiting outside school, my house, the mall…the bridal shop? That was you following me, right?”
